Cal Dunagan
Cal Dunagan graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in English and earned his J.D. from Texas Tech School of Law, where he served as Article Editor for the Estate Planning and Community Property Law Journal. Before law school Cal was an English teacher and later worked in business development and entrepreneurship, experience that shapes a practical, client-centered perspective.
His litigation practice focuses on construction, real estate, and commercial disputes. He represents developers, general contractors, subcontractors, property owners’ associations, landowners, and other businesses in construction, real estate, and commercial disputes. His work covers construction-defect and warranty claims, DTPA and RCLA claims, payment and lien disputes, contract and procurement controversies, and complex land rights and regulatory matters.
Cal's litigation experience compliments his transactional practice. He handles complex real estate transactions, including purchase and sale agreements, condominium and subdivision regime formation, commercial and residential leases, various types of easements and land-use agreements, as well as deeds and deed-restrictions. He also advises sophisticated developer and business clients on corporate and entity formation matters, including corporate organization, joint-venture operations, LLCs, LLPs, LPs, Family Limited Partnerships and other organizational documents, and has assisted with large M&A deals. He has experience negotiating and drafting construction and design-build agreements, master service and construction agreements, and contractor and procurement contracts.
Known for careful preparation, clear communication, and straightforward ethical counsel, Cal protects his clients’ interests with pragmatic judgment and without unnecessary drama. Outside the office, Cal focuses on spending time with his growing family. He and his wife have their hands full raising five wonderful children. His roles as husband and father define and drive him, and home is where he resets and stays grounded. In his free time (when he finds it), Cal studies film and the craft of storytelling, writes fiction, plays piano and guitar, and tends a small hobby farm where he grows tomatoes and peppers.
